Delete your account

This page explains how to delete your account for Thicket, the bird sound app by Thomas Fearn, and what happens to your information. One account works on Android and iPhone, so deleting it on either removes it everywhere.
In the app on Android
- Open Thicket and tap the settings button (three sliders) at the top of the Listen screen.
- Scroll to Account at the bottom.
- Tap Delete account, then Delete account again to confirm.
In the app on iPhone or iPad
- Open Thicket and go to the Settings tab.
- Under Account, tap Delete Account and confirm.
Without the app
Email [email protected] with the subject “Delete my Thicket account”, from the email address you signed in with. If you used Sign in with Apple and hid your email, give the relay address instead, which you can find in your Apple Account’s settings under Sign in with Apple. Your account is deleted within 30 days, and you’ll get a reply when it’s done.
What is deleted
Deleting your account removes these from Thicket’s account service straight away:
- Your email address, your account ID and when you last signed in.
- Your sign-in sessions on every device.
- Your history saved to the account: each session’s times, place name and coordinates, the birds identified, and which you confirmed, rejected or marked as seen.
- Your settings and mutes saved to the account.
- What Apple or Google sent when you signed in with them, such as your name and an ID for your Apple or Google account.
- Feedback you sent while signed in.
The account service doesn’t currently keep backups, so no other copy remains.
What is kept
- What’s on your phone. History, clips, recordings, settings and places on your phone stay there after the account is deleted. To remove them, delete Thicket from your phone.
- Android device backups. If backups are turned on, a copy of Thicket’s data on your phone may be in your Google account until Google replaces or deletes that backup.
- Birds you uploaded to iNaturalist. They’re observations in your own iNaturalist account, so they stay there; edit or delete them on iNaturalist. Your iNaturalist sign-in stays on your phone until you sign out of iNaturalist in Thicket or delete the app.
- Feedback sent while signed out isn’t linked to your account, so it’s kept while it’s useful for improving Thicket. Email the address above to have it deleted, saying roughly when you sent it and any email address you left in the form.
- Server logs, which include IP addresses, are kept for about a day.
- Sign in with Apple or Google. Thicket stays listed as a connected app in your Apple or Google account until you remove it there.
