Support
Thicket identifies birds by sound, on your iPhone, iPad or Android phone. To report a problem or suggest a feature, use Send Feedback in Thicket’s settings, or email [email protected] and say which phone and which version of iOS or Android you have.

Common questions
Where are the settings?
On iPhone and iPad, in the Settings tab. On Android, tap the settings button (three sliders) at the top of the Listen screen.
Is Thicket free?
Yes. There are no ads and no subscription.
Do I need an account?
No. Listening, History, Recent News and every setting work without one. An account saves your history and settings so they survive a lost or replaced phone and stay in step between devices, including between iPhone and Android.
What leaves my phone?
Sound is analysed on your phone, and recordings never leave it. A clip only leaves it if you share one or upload a bird to iNaturalist. Recent News and rare bird alerts send your location rounded to about a kilometre to eBird and iNaturalist. If you sign in, your history and settings are saved to your account. The privacy policy has the details.
How do I delete my account?
In settings, under Account, tap Delete Account. It deletes your account and everything saved to it straight away. History on your phone is kept; delete the app to remove that too. To delete your account without the app, and for what is deleted or kept, see Delete your account.
I didn’t get a sign-in email
Check your junk or spam folder and wait a minute. The email has a link to open on your phone; if it has a code, you can type that in instead. You can also use Sign in with Apple on iPhone and iPad, or Sign in with Google on Android.
Why does Thicket want my location?
To narrow identifications to birds found where you are at this time of year, to record where sessions were, and to find sightings nearby. Without it, Thicket still identifies birds, but more species are possible, so there are more false matches. You can also choose a place yourself: tap the location at the top of the Listen screen to pick a recent place or search for one.
Why didn’t a rare bird alert arrive straight away?
Alerts are checked in the background, and your phone decides when that happens: on iPhone it’s up to iOS, and on Android it’s about once an hour when Android lets it run. So an alert can come hours after a report. Checks use where you last opened Thicket. Make sure notifications are allowed for Thicket in your phone’s settings.
My settings didn’t appear on my new phone
Sign in with the same account and keep Thicket open for a few seconds while it syncs. Settings changed on the phone you’re using win over changes made elsewhere.
Can I analyse a recording?
Yes. Tap the upload button on the Listen screen, or share an audio file to Thicket from another app, such as Voice Memos, Files or Mail on iPhone. Recordings named like 20260912 0848 Petersfield England.wav use that time and place.
How accurate are the identifications?
Confidence is shown as High, Medium or Possible. Scores aren’t calibrated yet, so treat percentages as rough, and replay a clip to check a match before confirming it.
Which languages is Thicket in?
English, Welsh, German, Spanish, French, Italian and Dutch. It follows your phone’s language, or the language you choose for Thicket in your phone’s settings.

Identification uses BirdNET V2.4, developed by the K. Lisa Yang Center for Conservation Bioacoustics at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and Chemnitz University of Technology, licensed CC BY-NC-SA 4.0, and Google DeepMind’s Perch 2.0. Nearby sightings come from eBird and iNaturalist, whose contributors’ records make that part of the app possible.
